The fish we target.......

Depending on the time of the season you join us, will determine what species of fish is available during your stay. Below is a list of the fish we target through out the season.

King Salmon: "Chi
nook

    
King salmon are the largest of all the salmon species. The world record was taken off the Kenai, tipping the scales at a whopping 97.25 pounds!! The average size of these monster salmon is 45 pounds with several fish in the 60 - 80 pound range caught during the season. King salmon are available from June 1st. - July 31st. Limit: 1 per day

Sockeye Salmon: "Reds"
IMG_0001Sockeye salmon are the most plentiful of all the salmon species on the Kenai River. With annual returns of over 1,000,000 fish. Sockeye salmon range from 6 - 14 pounds. Sockeye salmon are considered the best table fare salmon of all the species due to they're low oil and bright red meat. Sockeye salmon are available from June 15th - August 15th. Limit: 3 -6 per day

Coho Salmon: "Silvers"
miche silver 12catchSilver salmon are the guides favorite to target. these fish will chase your bait just under the surface. It is such a thrill to watch these fish chase your fly or jig to the boat. These fish also have a average weight of 10 - 14 pounds with the occasional 18 - 20 pounder caught. Silver salmon are available from August 10th - September 30th. Limit: 2 per day.

Rainbow Trout: "bows"

Rainbow trout are our favorite to target. These fish are like no other trout in America. They are hard hitting, hard fighting and very acrobatic when on the line. Kenai River rainbows are bigger than any other rainbow we have seen. With an average size of 18 -20 inches and the 30 plus incher that tops 20 pounds are caught regularly. Most of our return clients come for these above average trout. Rainbows are available from June 11th - September 30. Peak times are August 15 - September 30. We always encourage catch and release of these wild native trout. However, Fish and Game allows 1 per day under 18 inches.

Dolly Varden: "Char"

Dolly Varden are a form of Arctic Char. These fish are very similar to a brook trout. In fact, Brookies are their closest relative. These are wild native fish that explode with color during their spawn. Dolly varden are plentiful in the Kenai and are very migratory too. Some of these fish have been known to cover several hundered miles of water in a season. Dolly Varden are available from June 11th - September 30th. Peak times are from August 15th - September 30. We always encourage catch and release of Dolly Varden. However, Fish and Game allows 1 per day under 18 inches.
