The Kenai River.

The Kenai River is broken down into 3 different sections. All sections give the angler different opportunities to catch different fish and apply new techniques as well. Each section provides wonderful fishing opportunities for any angler.
Lets start with the Upper Kenai. The Upper section is where the head waters are. The Upper Kenai starts in Cooper Landing, where we are based out of. The water flows out of Kenai Lake and travels 18 miles to Skilak Lake. This is known as the Upper Kenai River. This section provides fantastic fishing opportunities for Sockeye Salmon, Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden. We also fish this section for Silver Salmon in the later season too. The Upper Kenai also has wonderful wading opportunities for the fly fishing angler as well as the spin anglers. The Upper section of the Kenai River is also a "drift only" section. This makes for a peacful quiet drift without the noise of power boats racing up and down river like the Lower section that we will talk about in that portion of this detail.

The Middle Kenai Rer starts below Skilak Lake and runs to the Moose River confluence of the Kenai River. This 20 mile section is famed for its trophy size Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden. We have seen many Rainbows in this section over the 34 inch mark. Thats over 20 pounds of trout! At certain times of the season, we find ourselves here making dreams come true. This section of the Kenai River is mostly boat fishing with limited wading opportunities. If you are looking for a trophy Rainbow...... then this is your section of the Kenai River that you want to be on. We also target Sockeye salmon and Silver Salmon on this section too.

The Lower Kenai River is located from the confluence of the Moose river down stream to the ocean at Cook Inlet. This section of the the Kenai River is also famed for its King Salmon fishing. No where in the world do the king salmon get larger then this river. The world record was taken off this river, pushing the scales at 97.25 pounds! We see many fish each year in the 70 - 80 pound range, with plenty of fish from 50 - 60 pounds. This section of the Kenai River is open to bait fishing as well as power boats too. It may be a busy section of river, but the payoffs are HUGE!

So as you can see, each section of river has different fishing opportunities. Depending on what species of fish you wish to target,  will determine where you will fish. Regardless of what section you choose to fish, we will provide you with the best opportunities for catching fish on that particular section.
